Anne Carlsen Center believes each person should experience as many unique opportunities as is possible, and utilizes one week each summer to turn summer dreams into reality. TechnoCamp, the one week camp held each year at Elks Camp Grassick, supports and enhances the campers’ use of communication systems and technology to allow them to participate fully in the camping experience.
The technology focus provides individuals the opportunity to further develop skills with technology adaptations. Mixed with functional learning activities are camp favorites including pontoon rides, a camp-wide talent show, crafts, and recreation activities.
Acceptance Criteria
- Must be 13 years old or older, with a disability
- Must be able to communicate basic wants and needs using verbal speech, a communication device, or basic sign language
- May be ambulatory or use a wheelchair
- Have only mild allergies
- May have only mild behaviors
- Camp is limited to 25 people
Elks Camp Grassick
The camp is nestled on the sunny south shore of Lake Isabel, five miles south of Dawson, N.D. Lake Isabel is a sand bottom, spring-fed lake with a gently sloping floor and a large shallow area suitable for water games and swimming instruction. The grounds surrounding the lake cover acres of rolling hills, trees, flowers and shrubs. Trained and dedicated Camp Grassick counselors, along with skilled ACC staff, provide assistance to meet campers’ needs.
