The ACC Gardening Program helps students and clients of all ages learn about plants and their environment, while providing opportunities to learn in and out of the classroom.
Some activities involved with the Gardening Program include:
- Watering plants
- Pruning plants
- Mixing fertilizer with soil
- Learning which insects/animals are good and bad for plant growth
- Tasting harvested vegetables
- Making salsa and jams or jellies from harvested fruits and vegetables
- Selling fresh vegetables after packaging them in portion-appropriate sizes
In the solarium, students and clients can get their hands dirty 12 months a year — even if the weather in North Dakota turns cold or snowy. Behind the Center’s Jamestown Campus eight plots are maintained and grow fruits and vegetables throughout the spring, summer and fall.
