The purpose of Accessing the Artist Within is to showcase how assistive technologies can empower students to explore the artist within themselves. It will be a venue where individuals ages 5-18 can showcase art created using assistive technologies. It will also be a place where children, teens and practitioners can come to get ideas and inspiration to unleash the artists in all kids.
Goals of the Accessing the Artist Project
- Show how current technologies give children access to express themselves through the arts.
- Provide children with disabilities a venue to showcase their abilities.
- Create avenues that will help encourage and inspire children with disabilities to express themselves through the arts.
- Provide information, education, and inspiration to other children so they can express themselves through art.
- Network artists and practitioners to support and share best practices in the field.
- Provide an educational component so the efforts can be replicated and expanded.
- Provide an annual venue where art created using assistive technology can be displayed. This year, at least 10 pieces of art will be displayed at the Closing the Gap Conference.
