Ultimately, physical therapy’s goal is to help children and young adults participate or return to their daily activities in the home, school and community.

Aquatic Therapy

Anne Carlsen Center has a warm water pool where individuals can participate and have fun with therapy activities while in the water. Participating in aquatic therapy helps to improve the following:

  • Circulation
  • Strength and endurance
  • Balance and coordination
  • Range of motion
  • Muscle tone

Outreach Services

Physical therapy services are offered in Carrington so that local families don’t have to travel to the Jamestown campus for evaluations and direct therapy. Clients from birth to age 21 are seen at the Carrington Health Center.

Developmental Milestones

The following are motor tasks that children typically accomplish by certain ages. If your child is having trouble reaching these milestones, contact your primary care physician to determine if a physical therapy evaluation is necessary.

Four to Six Months:

  • Rolls over from stomach to back
  • Rolls over from back to stomach
  • Pivots on tummy when lying on the floor

Seven Months:

  • Sits alone, steady

Nine months:

  • Crawls on hands and knees
  • Pulls self to a steady position

Thirteen to Fourteen Months:

  • Walks without help
  • Climbs up on chairs or furniture

Fifteen to Eighteen Months:

  • Runs
  • Kicks a ball forward
  • Has good balance and coordination
